LGBTQIA+ Programs
Our LGBTQIA+ programs provide a safe and supportive environment for young individuals who may be struggling with their sexual orientation or gender identity.
We offer a safe space where young people feel accepted, validated, and understood, which is crucial for their mental and emotional well-being.
MYST programs offer an opportunity for LGBTQI youth to connect with others who share similar experiences and challenges. By creating a sense of community, they help combat feelings of isolation, loneliness, and discrimination.
The LGBTQI programs provide information and resources about sexual orientation, gender identity, and related issues. This helps increase awareness and understanding among young people and society at large, reducing stigmatization and promoting inclusivity.
We know that LGBTQI youth are at a higher risk of mental health challenges, including depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. We provide counselling services or referrals to mental health professionals who specialize in supporting this population, ensuring they receive the necessary mental health care.
Our LGBTQI programs aim to empower young LGBTQI individuals by promoting self-acceptance and self-esteem. By providing them with a sense of identity and self-worth, these programs help young people navigate the challenges they may face due to their sexual orientation or gender identity.
We often encourage young individuals to become activists and advocates for LGBTQI rights. Through these programs, they learn about their rights, gain confidence, and are encouraged to fight against discrimination and injustice, helping to create a more inclusive society.
Growing up LGBTQIA+ in a small community is still unacceptably tough. Young people face many challenges including discrimination and bullying. MYST works with schools and young people in the Blue Mountain to change this.
We also run school programmes and provide support to help make schools more inclusive, safer, and happier places that are welcoming and supportive spaces for all young people.
We also organise fun events for all local Young LGBTQIA+ people and their cohorts to come together and enjoy social activities such as our Queer Movie Nights and provide opportunities to participate in discussions and seek individual support as required.
